Bethany is blessed with the following staff members.

Stephen Baker, Music Director
Stephen comes from Michigan (although his dad and grandfather were Iowans) and has been at Bethany since the fall of 2013. He started composing and studying the piano at age 7 and began taking organ lessons at age 14.  He studied music at Central Michigan University and the Eastman School of Music. Despite a strict classical upbringing (his grandfather was a composer and theory professor and his father was a classical music host on public radio), Stephen chose to forge a more independent path as a musician. Between 2009 and 2012, Stephen taught music classes and worked in a bakery alongside cloistered monks in a Trappist monastery. He loves contemplative worship and plainchant, and excels in very traditional organ music, but he also likes experimental and new music and occasionally plays the fiddle, guitar, or ukulele in worship.

Lois Becker, Custodian

Lois Becker started taking care of our beautiful church shortly after she became a member of Bethany in 1980. She says her favorite part about working at Bethany are the friendly members. When Lois isn't busy looking after the church building and the grounds she finds time to volunteer herself and her husband, Bob, for Meals on Wheels or one of the other mission works at the church. If there is an event or mission project going on at Bethany, you're almost sure to see them helping out.

For a quick get away, Lois and Bob like to head out on their Gold Wing bikes for dinner in Sioux Falls or some other quick adventure.

Once you meet Lois, either in town or at the church, you'll be friends forever. She's just that way!

Katie Hare, Youth & Family Minister
My name is Katie Hare. I’m so excited to join Bethany as the new Youth & Family Ministries Director. I joined Bethany from Eastern Iowa, coming from Faith Lutheran in Eldridge, where I spent four years as a part time Youth Director. I grew up in Maquoketa, IA, graduating in 2005. I attended Greenville College in Greenville, IL graduating with a degree in Ministry with an emphasis in Pastoral Ministry. I’m the new kid, starting in August 2015 here at Bethany, and I’ve enjoyed getting to know our youth and families here, as the congregation has been warm and welcoming. Looking forward to the future and walking with our youth and families in their faith walk!

Jennifer Henry, Pastor

Mary Ann Quail, Secretary

Mary Ann Quail is a life-long Lutheran, baptized into the faith on December 18, 1960. She has served as parish secretary at Bethany Lutheran Church since 2005. Over this time, Mary Ann has found Bethany to be an amazing place, full of His grace. She is grateful for the incredible support of the congregational members and feels Bethany is a warm and welcoming place.

Mary Ann studied accounting at Spencer School of Business and after several years of work in the public and private sector, decided to change course by accepting the position at Bethany. Juggling the many responsibilities of a parish secretary is a trick in itself. Mary Ann applauds the terrific volunteers that help her get the work done. (without dropping a ball!)

Mary Ann is married and has two children. In her spare time she enjoys the company of family and friends, hiking, biking, reading and playing "Words with Friends".

Drop in anytime and meet Mary Ann Quail. She is the friendliest, warmest and helpful juggler you will ever meet!

Onalee Wright, Visitation Lay Minister
Onalee grew up in Brandon, SD and graduated from Brandon Valley High School. She graduated from Waldorf College with an AA Degree;  Augustana College with a BA and University of SD with a MA. She taught special education in RockValley IA for 5 years. Then went to Luther Seminary where she earned a MA in Pastoral Theology and Ministry. Onalee returned to early childhood special education, teaching 30 years in Spencer and retiring in 2013.

Beginning in the fall of 2013, Onalee joined the staff at Bethany Lutheran Church, where she is a member with her husband Russ. She serves as the part-time lay minister for visitation, calling on those who are hospitalized, members who are mostly homebound, in assisted living or a nursing home.  She also leads the “Caring Friends” group: volunteers who also make visits to Bethany members.  Onalee is open to connecting with anyone who would like a visit for any reason.  Please feel free to contact her via email at or cell phone at 712-363-5153.
